Entertaining Gravel Garden

The brief for this garden was to create a quirky, dog friendly low maintenance garden in which to entertain and relax.

With 2 teenage children and 3 dogs the garden had to work for all of them.

The client did not want a lawn and had limited time to spend on maintenance.

The garden has been broken into two main areas, a large entertaining patio with seating for six to ten guests and a fire pit, and a second more private area for relaxing and reading.

A willow archway in the back border has been designed to add interest and is the main feature of the entertaining patio.

Pale coloured gravel has been used as the main flooring linking the two areas together.

The planting wraps around each patio to create an intimate space and divides this large plot into specific zones.

Shrubs and tall herbaceous perennials create height and the purple and lime colour palette adds interest and structure.

The large existing tree has been maintained to add height and shelter in the garden. Wrapped around the tree is a bench, providing another seating area.

The garden can now be used all year round and makes the most the the entire space.
